This is the<br \/>\nsame room as last semester. We will try something new in the format for this meeting:<br \/>\na short presentation and a panel discussion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>a) Lightning Talk:<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><br \/>\n&#8220;How-To Setup Virtual Machines for Best Performance&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n&#8212; This will target non-enterprise systems, suitable for small businesses and home<br \/>\nusers. VirtualBox and KVM using virt-manager will included as time permits.<br \/>\nPresented by JD.<\/p>\n<p>b) Discussion:<span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"> &#8220;Linux Desktop Security Techniques&#8221;<\/span><br \/>\n&#8212; An interactive panel where the following topics will be considered:<br \/>\n* email<br \/>\n* browser and browser plugins<br \/>\n* firewalls<br \/>\n* remote access<br \/>\n* antivirus<br \/>\n* networking<br \/>\n* patch management<br \/>\n* SELinux and (whatever Ubuntu is pushing)<br \/>\n* Anonymous browsing<br \/>\n* bittorrenting and Usenet<br \/>\n* other topics from the audience<\/p>\n<p>Orlando Karam and JD\u00c2\u00a0 are the confirmed panelist, but we are hoping for<br \/>\nother distinguished guests.<\/p>\n<p>BIOS:<br \/>\n<strong>Orlando Karam <\/strong> was born in the US but grew up in Mexico. He got hooked up with<br \/>\nUnix while a grad student at Tulane University, and has been running Linux on<br \/>\nservers and laptops for more than 15 years. He teaches computer science at<br \/>\nSouthern Polytechnic State University, and is starting to use AWS for research<br \/>\nand development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>JD\u00c2\u00a0 <\/strong>has been a Linux user since 1993 on SLS, when you needed to<br \/>\nbe A MAN to install it. He&#8217;s been using virtual machines since 1989 on MVS,<br \/>\nbut started on midrange virtualization in 2000 with VMware Workstation and<br \/>\nSun Microsystems Domains. The last 5 years, he has use almost every type of<br \/>\nvirtualization available on Linux in production environments (VMware Player,<br \/>\nESX, ESXi, Xen, KVM, and VirtualBox).
