{"id":319,"date":"2012-10-09T09:12:26","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T13:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ale.org\/?p=319"},"modified":"2012-10-09T09:12:26","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T13:12:26","slug":"ale-nwspsu-mtg-730pm-thurs-october-11th-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ale.org\/?p=319","title":{"rendered":"ALE-NW@SPSU MTG. &#8212; 7:30pm Thurs., October 11th, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong> The next ALE-NW@SPSU meeting is being held<br \/>\nThursday, Oct. 11th, 2012 at 7:30pm in room J-266<br \/>\nof the Atrium (J) building on the SPSU campus.<\/p>\n<p>The feature presentation will be: <font size=\"+2\"><br \/>\nSecuring a Debian Box to NISPOM Standard <\/font><\/p>\n<p>Abstract:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn order for any computer system to hold classified data on a U.S. Government<br \/>\nsystem, it must be certified by the Defense Security System (DSS) which requires<br \/>\nthe computer system to align to the National Industrial Security Program<br \/>\nOperation Manual (NISPOM) standards. By default, Red Hat Linux is the default<br \/>\nLinux operating system of choice by DSS and others are typically not passed. So<br \/>\nwhat does one do when a system is based on Debian and needs to meet NISPOM<br \/>\nstandards? In this presentation, it will be shown the steps needed to meet<br \/>\nNISPOM standards on a Debian system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker Bio:<\/strong><br \/>\nJonathan Meek is a Research Scientist for Georgia Tech Research Institute, doing<br \/>\nwork in the Quality Assurance Department of the Electronic Systems Lab. He holds<br \/>\na bachelors degree in computer science and is currently working on his masters.<br \/>\nHe started working with Linux in 2006 at the suggestion of one of his<br \/>\nprofessors. Previous to his work at Georgia Tech Research, he worked at King &#038;<br \/>\nSpalding LLP on the IT Support team. His hobbies include running, writing, movie<br \/>\ntrivia, and teaching the Computer merit badge to Boy Scouts.
