\nLawrence Lessig’s “Creative Commons”
\nKeynote Address from Linuxworld, 2006
\n<\/font> <\/strong><\/p>\n

In his keynote from Linuxworld San Francisco,
\nProfessor Lessig describes what he calls the new
\nera of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Read\/Write Culture\u00e2\u20ac? that has been revived
\nby the internet and fueled by Open Source software.
\nHe talks about the technical, political, and social
\nchallenges we face in the changing landscape of
\ncreativity and free expression in the digital age. <\/p>\n

From his background as a lawyer, Lessig’s presentation
\naddresses the conflicts between creative freedoms and
\ncopyright laws, explaining his motivation for extending
\nthe ideals of the GNU\/Linux Public License into the
\n “remix” and derivative freedoms of Creative Commons
\nlicensing.<\/p>\n

\nBio:
\nLawrence Lessig is a Professor of Law at Stanford Law
\nSchool and founder of the school’s Center for Internet
\nand Society. Prior to joining the Stanford faculty, he was
\nthe Berkman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School,
\nand a Professor at the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n

Professor Lessig is the author of Free Culture (2004),
\nThe Future of Ideas (2001) and Code and Other Laws of
\nCyberspace (1999). He chairs the Creative Commons
\nproject, and serves on the board of the Free Software
\nFoundation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the
\nPublic Library of Science, and Public Knowledge. He is
\nalso a columnist for Wired magazine.<\/p>\n
