\npresented by Bob Toxen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract:
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201c Bob Toxen will discuss the seven most deadly sins of Linux security
\nand how to avoid them with time for Q&A. Key points include:
\n=> Understanding the seven most deadly sins
\n=> Password issues
\n=> Open network ports
\n=> Insecure and badly configured programs
\n=> How to protect against new unforseen vulnerabilities
\n=> The trade-offs between security and convenience<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u201c Participants will learn how to decide what software to install while
\ninstalling Linux and how to harden a Linux system after the installation
\nto greatly reduce the likelihood of a break-in. This presentation is
\nunique in that a few key techniques will be explained that allow any
\nSysAdmin \u00e2\u20ac\u201d newbie or with decades of experience \u00e2\u20ac\u201d to harden a desktop,
\nlaptop, or server in an hour or two so that it will be orders of magnitude
\nmore difficult to compromise.<\/p>\n

Bio:
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201c Mr. Bob Toxen is author of Real World Linux Security Second Edition, 848pp
\npublished by Prentice Hall PTR. He is a world-class expert on Linux and
\nUNIX security and mixed-OS network security using Linux. His 30+ years of
\nUNIX and 16 years of Linux experience including being one of the developers
\nof Berkeley UNIX and being one of the four creators of Silicon Graphics\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 UNIX.
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u201c His consulting practice focuses on hardening Linux servers, security
\nconsulting, Linux System Administration, network and computer security
\nusing low cost Linux solutions, including firewalls, virus and spam
\nfilters, VPNs, teaching computer security around the world, and more.<\/p>\n
